I’m naming it Audrey. Because just like the Little Shop of Horrors plant, it may eat me.
(Little Shop of Horrors starts about halfway through. And yup, that’s me on the left! In…middle school?)
First of all, a reminder about the contest – just leave a comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win some seeds. Please enter – I REALLY want to give some away. Contest ends on Saturday.
Now, back to the luffa. It’s…huge. Seriously. Lots of flowers, so it looks very pretty. But still. no. fruit. All pics in this thread were taken with my phone, btw, which actually takes pretty damn good pictures. (HTC Droid Eris)
I’ve sort of trained it so it grows along the back of the side garden. Underneath there are some junipers and vinca…and lots of weeds. Its kind of a crappy area. Every couple days I have to go pull a bunch of vines and put then back up there – otherwise it would cover the whole back corner of that yard. It’s already a good 20 feet up that tree to the left. The plant starts at the fuller bamboo tepee in front of the shed. Craziness!
And in other news, squash bugs and/or stinkbugs have killed my 2 zucchini plants and my pumpkin (which finally had new flowers on it!). Anyone know of any way to prevent them or ward them off next year? I was thinking about trying to grow a pumpkin on purpose next year (this one was a surprise seed that came with the compost), but not if the squash bugs will just eat them. I only got one zucchini and one pumpkin (which is still sitting on my kitchen counter bc I don’t know what to do with it!).
