Heyyyy, way to post a bajillion posts in a row, Jennah! I know I know. But things just keep HAPPENING! Right?
So anyway. I read Young House Love pretty much daily and am really getting into it with Bower Power. I have done the Pinterest Challenge before (No Sew Pillowcase and Onesie Dress), so here I am again.
I scoured my pinboards for something that I thought I could get done in a timely fashion and came up with nadaaa. In the end, I ended up finding a bunch of tutorials for Sharpie tie dye and decided to try that on a pillowcase. I’ve wanted a sort of watercolory pillowcase for the bedroom to break up all the graphic lines and get some other colors in the mix.
So I think this MIGHT be a Pinterest FAIL. You be the judge and let me know.
Excuse the crap pics. It was late then and it is late now, so I don’t feel like editing them. DEAL. OK. Let’s not get mean about it.
OK, so tools gathered. Buddha supervising. Good so far. The pillow has a down insert and the cover zips off. I’ve settled into keeping only that kind of pillow around for refashions bc my husband is a pillow buncher, so poly-filled ones always end up deformed. Anyway. I got GENERIC Sharpies because I am cheap and they had more colors. Sharpies (or, I guess, “Sharpies” in this case) are one of those things that I am always needing and can NEVER find mine, so I could use a new pack anyway. I also got a pack of cheap pillowcases (figured I could just sew it to fit a throw pillow after prettyfying it). I already have alcohol at home. I did NOT have an eyedropper (is that something people just have laying around?? Where do you even randomly find one?).
I decided to do a trial with the…pillow case case? I dunno. My $3 pillow cases from WalMart were packaged in this cute little thing. I used the cardboard packaging underneath to stop from tie dyeing my table.
Some of the versions linked from Pinterest had sort of a flowery look that I really liked. I also wanted the colors to bleed into each other more and not be little circles, so I experimented with drawing a way I thought would make that work.
Then the alcohol. I first tried to drop small bits on with a straw, but that didn’t really work. I then tried to spread with a cotton ball and that failed. I ended up finding a small squirt bottle, put some alcohol in there, and sprayed it on. It worked….I guess? It spread out, but not as much as I thought it would. I tried with the second flower to make thicker lines.
This is today, after it had a chance to dry. I’m not thrilled. It kind of just looks like my homework got rained on, no? Maybe it would be better if I used more colors? I’m not sure I want to commit a $1.50 pillow case to this.
So what do you think? Pinterest FAIL or cute?
Also, my hair had been feeling sort of ooky lately, so I rinsed with vinegar this AM and my hair feels soooo soft and nice and so much better! So another mini-Pinterest Challenge for ya there.
Heyyyyyyy, by the wayyyyy, since you’re here. You should probably enter to win some spin pins in my ‘busy mom hair’ post! Also, I have a post that includes a seed (stevia!) and seed storage giveaway! So check those out while you’re here!

I wouldn’t say it looks like tie dye but it’s kinda cute! Great colours. Could you add some more smaller flowers around too and make it look like an abstract flower print? I think that could be adorable!
